Airbnb is a really great way to live like a local at any travel destination of the world. Often it is cheaper and more comfortable than booking a hotel. If you are a group, you can live in the same house and not in separate hotel rooms. You usually have the full kitchen, so you can cook at home and save on eating out.
We frequently use Airbnb in our own traveling, so below are some reviews of the properties we stayed at, with comments.
Mexico
Playa del Carmen
The Property: The condo is very clean and modern, euro style. I especially loved the shower! The pool on the roof was very pleasant and almost always empty, so we had it for ourselves most of the time.
Location: About 10 minute walk to the beach and 3 minute walk to the northern end of the 5th Avenue. It is quite a long walk to the beginning of the 5th, where all the malls and colectivos (to Tulum, Xcaret etc) are, but it is still possible to go on foot. But since all the accommodations close to the beginning of the 5th are a lot more expensive, it was worth the walk.
There are great restaurants nearby, such as El Fogon, Papa Charly, Chiltepin and El Pirata. Choux Choux for breakfast is fantastic. They are not on 5th Avenue, so prices are a great!

Extra Comments: We stayed for a month and because of the long stay, Igor was very nice to offer a couple of free courtesy cleanings. We absolutely recommend the place and would love to stay there again. Whenever we had a question, Igor was very quick to respond, the girls in the office downstairs are very nice and helped us print some tickets a couple of times.
Cancun
The Property: It is a separate apartment in a private house. There are several apartments in the house in total. Everything necessary was in the apartment. There is a pool downstairs and a grilling/chilling area with table, chairs and hammocks. Guests can use the grill.
Location: downtown Cancun. There are several local inexpensive restaurants around the area. Public buses are just a short walk away.
Comments: Elizabeth, the owner and the host, picked us up at the airport and was really helpful throughout our stay. We became friends with her and the other residents and frequently hung out at the pool together. It is a perfect opportunity to really live like a local in Cancun.

USA
Sarasota, Florida
The Property: We traveled to Sarasota with my parents, so we needed a bigger property, at least for 4 people. All the hotels and properties at the beach are really expensive, so after some research, we decided to opt for this downtown cottage: the price was reasonable and even though it was not possible to walk to the beach, the location was still great.
The cottage was very spacious, with large living areas. One thing we liked the most: besides standard items there were things like spices, cooking spray, and other things necessary if you want to cook at home. Also, all the cleaning supplies, paper towels, etc were present as well. Saves you a lot of money on “long-lasting” items!
Location: the house is located only a 7-10 minute drive to Siesta Beach, easily one of the best beaches in the country. About 15 minutes to Lido. There are plenty of restaurants in the area (Walt’s Fish Camp was the best!) and grocery stores. There is also a convenience store at the gas station about 1 minute away.
